It makes noise, but only if you push a button on the side which is not easy to find when using it as a light saber - the big push button merely opens the sith spikes which are no big deal and seem pretty cheaply made. The box had a few dents on it which was confusing because I had bought it new from amazon but I was to thrilled to dwell on the small problems. I slid in the three AA-Bateries and ignited the blade with a hiss. (The ignition button was also pushed in to the hilt and couldn't come out. It could still turn on through so I ignored it also). I shot out the spikes and ran around the house acting out my Sith fantasies. I went out side to lightsaber battle with the neighbor kids when the strangest thing happened. After 20 seconds and my lightsaber blade (not the hilt) hit only once, the spikes wouldn't retract! I was furious and sad so now I am sitting here typing it out to you. If you want this for any other reason than to put it up in a display case I advise against buying it. It is the most fragile lightsaber I have...
